I am considering to buy a short telezoom for static displays. I have heard many good opinion about Tamron 17-50/2.8 lens. Has anybody experience about this lens? Is it useable for close take-offs and landings , the AF is enough fast?

On the TLP Spotters' Day I have used the simpliest Canon EF-S 18-55 non is lens with 7D for static. Some of the images are absolutely acceptable, however much less are accebtable of them than the bad ones. The conclusion is that this lens is useable only for "emergency". Tomorrow we will have a possibility ti visit Kecskemét AFB. UInfrotunately the weather will be cloudy, windy and rainy, but I acquired a Tamron 17-50/2.8 non-VC lens. I am very curious what kind of images will be prepared. If somebody has any experience regarding making photos among such weatherconditionss please share it with us!
